See the seals lazing on the barrage structures before enjoying a gourmet morning tea at the foot of some amazing sandhills. Skipper Glen will provide an informative commentary and answer all of your questions.

Secrets of the Coorong

For families and aspiring ecologists

A new unique, innovative and educational Coorong experience. Do you want to know about the Secrets of the Coorong? Come for a boat ride with your personal guide Glen Hill.

You have an opportunity to look beneath the surface of the Coorong to see what secrets are hiding there. Examine the mud and algae to look for the types of plants and animals that inhabit this unique ecosystem. Examine them under a microscope, take a photo and learn the science behind the ecology.  This is hands on citizen science at its best.

Our local Estuarine Ecologist, Faith Coleman, has helped design the scientific content. Information has been sought from experts at the South Australian Herbarium. Resources have been prepared of dried samples of algae species and descriptions of what you observed on the water. Learn about the formation of the Coorong and learn about mud waves, black ooze, discover keystone species and more. Enjoy a morning/afternoon tea while examining the samples under a microscope and listening to a presentation back at the Hill’s Coorong residence.

Land Based Tour only is available – for all options ring 0427604047.

Wild Beach Adventure

Coorong Crossing and Beach Walk

Explore the sights of the Younghusband Peninsula

Coorong Wildside Tours offers a unique wilderness experience that you will never forget.

Located in the Coorong National Park, only 2 hours south of Adelaide you arrive at picturesque Parnka Point, the narrowest part of the Coorong. If you are lucky you may spot emus and kangaroos on the way. You will see many species and depending on the time of year some of our migratory visitors from Siberia.

After a short boat ride across the water, your first stop is near the rusting remains of old cockle harvesting vehicles. Learn about the local fishing industry from Glen the fisherman.

A winding track takes you over several sandhills of the Younghusband Peninsula, immersing you in Storm Boy Country.  As you top the last sandhill you observe the panorama of the Southern Ocean waves that crash and surge on the steeply shelving beach. You are likely to be the only people for fifty kilometres but feel like you could be on a deserted island.

See a midden site where the Ngarrindjeri enjoyed a pipi feast for thousands of years.

Learn about the environment from Glen who imparts an in depth understanding from a fisherman’s perspective of almost 35 years of experience. Gain valuable knowledge of the ecosystem as Glen tells stories about the region you are exploring and answers your questions.

On the beach, deckhand Ben will give you a surf fishing lesson. Learn the techniques of how to cast a line past the crashing waves with the possibility of catching a fish, maybe even hook up an iconic mulloway.

Enjoy Tracy’s gourmet box morning tea including their own smoked fish and a personalised reusable water bottle which you can take with you when you leave us.

Glen and Tracy invite you to enjoy the full experience of the Coorong by adding to your tour an optional lunch of local seafood at their home which is metres from the shoreline on Seven Mile Road.

Dine the Coorong

A Gourmet Seafood lunch with a view

Indulge yourself with our 5 course lunch or dinner which features local seafood, regional produce and indigenous ingredients.

You will be captivated by the full vista of the sandhills and stunning Coorong view from the deck of the Hill’s residence, overlooking Gibby’s Bay.

Glen will share his passionate knowledge of this unique waterway while Tracy delights you with her tasty savory and sweet treats. You will also be sampling their award-winning seafood which is caught , processed and prepared by the expert pair.

"Glen is friendly, deeply knowledgeable and a wonderful guide. He sees things in the landscape I wouldn't have picked up on myself (from the smallest of migratory birds to the emus making their way up the sandhill). Glen also provided an understanding of the everchanging nature of the Coorong as part of a larger ecosystem."
